Licenses

BLE Hero Workbench includes open-source software. This page lists the components whose licenses call for public attribution. The complete notice file, with the full license text for every component, ships inside the product: open the Command Palette and run BLE Hero: Open Third-Party Notices, or find it in the Help view.

Icons

Icons are from Microsoft Visual Studio Code Icons, copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. The icons are used without modification. The accompanying source code of that package is used under the MIT license.

Bluetooth® host stack

Bluetooth functionality is built on Bumble, copyright (c) Google LLC, used under the Apache License 2.0. Our changes to Bumble are contributed back upstream at github.com/google/bumble.

Runtime

The product embeds CPython (Python Software Foundation License), along with OpenSSL (Apache License 2.0), XZ Utils (0BSD), mpdecimal (BSD 2-Clause), and the PyInstaller bootloader (GPL 2.0 or later, under the PyInstaller bootloader exception, which permits distributing frozen applications under our own terms).

Additional Python components are used under the Apache 2.0, BSD, and MIT licenses: numpy, cryptography, websockets, aiohttp, attrs, click, humanize, prompt_toolkit, and their dependencies.

libusb (LGPL)

This product includes libusb, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1 or later. libusb is distributed as a separate dynamic library and is not statically linked, so it can be replaced with a modified version. Complete source for the version we distribute is available from github.com/libusb/libusb. You may also request it from info@heroinstruments.com.

Node.js components

The extension includes packages published under the MIT, ISC, and Apache 2.0 licenses. Each package retains its own copyright and license notice, reproduced in full in the notice file shipped with the product.
